From Partition to a Small Table Near Ashoka Palace

Radhamal Bajaj came to Udaipur after Partition with almost nothing. The family stayed in a refugee camp. He found a small job at Patel Soda Factory — honest work, but not enough to build a future.

A contractor named Khubi Lal noticed his sincerity. He offered Radhamal ₹250 — no interest, no hurry, repay whenever you can. Radhamal was reluctant. He didn't know how he'd ever repay it. But Khubi Lal insisted.

With that ₹250, Radhamal put up a small table beside Ashoka Palace cinema hall and started selling tea and coffee. That table became Jagdish Soda Water Factory and restaurant. And in 1964, the family opened their first sweet shop.

Sixty years later, that ₹250 has grown into three of Udaipur's most-loved sweet shops — all Jagdish Misthan Bhandar, across Surajpole, Chetak Circle, and Hiran Magri Sector 3. Run by the Bajaj family. Still made the same way. Still made with pure desi ghee.

1964
The family opens their first sweet shop — Jagdish Misthan Bhandar at Surajpole.
1970s
JMB becomes known across Mewar. The kitchen prepares Rabdi for former Rajasthan CM Mohan Lal Sukhadia's team.
1980s
Former President Sardar Zail Singh is served JMB's Kesar ki Mithai in Bhilwara — he sends a written certificate of appreciation.
1990s–2000s
Two more shops open — one at Chetak Circle, and one in Hiran Magri Sector 3.
Today
The same kitchen now hums with two rhythms — old-school mithai at dawn, and the warm smell of the new bakery.

The Man Behind JMB

Jagdish Bajaj

Son of the founder, Jagdish ji carried his father's values forward — hard work, honesty, and treating every customer like family. Under his hands, JMB grew from one shop into three.

Beyond the kitchen, he serves as State Vice President of the Rajasthan Sindhi Samaj and President of Zila Sindhi Samaj. He's a Trustee of Sindhi Dharamshala and takes an active part in community marriages organised by Jhule Laal Seva Samiti — a sincere social worker who believes God lives in the heart.

"He would like to be known as a person who is honest and always ready to help others."
